One Multimedia journalism story that I think is effective from a site I frequently use is ‘Bruce Jenner Is Transitioning into a Woman’. I found the article on twitter.com a website and app I use routinely throughout my day. https://twitter.com/ThatChrisGore/status/561691961011490816 is the link to the tweet/article I found relevant to this assignment. . On the tweet itself, there is a link to people.com where you can read the full article. http://www.people.com/article/bruce-jenner-transitioning-woman The tweet is easy to find and the link takes you directly to the story. At the article it also gives you other related topics to read about. At the people website there are many ways you can share the article on different websites. There are comments on the bottom to interact with the other article viewers. You can also rate your reaction to the article. Alongside that, at the top of the page it gives you links to other stories and articles about Bruce Jenner, with thumbnail pictures included to catch your eye. On twitter with the tweet I found, there were hundreds of other tweets, pictures, articles, and responses to the topic. There was plentiful information on the topic of Bruce Jenner through twitter. The tweet also offers a photo of Bruce Jenner himself. Alongside that, it shows the people who favorited it and retweeted it. It is all given out on the internet and through digital media. I found this article through a trending topic that shows up on my home screen. There are a bunch of hashtags that have words that are a top trend currently in the US. Bruce Jenner was one of them and I clicked on it because I had heard about the story and wanted more detail on it. I have been seeing photos of Bruce looking more feminine and the title of this story and the hashtag made me really want to get more information on it.
Twitter works so well because there is so much interactivity that goes on. You can reply to pretty much anything. The interactivity works so well because anyone shares their ideas. Most often the replies start fights but at other times it brings people together. Twitter is basically reply or tweeting people. There is a Retweet and reply option for a reason, so people can write back and share their ideas. One thing I love about replies is with a TV show I watch. Other people who watch the show have discussions about the show and put up their ideas and theories that I put into my perspective and think about. It is a lot of sharing ideas and giving people things to think about. There is news of every kind on this website. From celebrities, Obama, sports, politics, crimes, you can find any type of news. people.com on the other hand I do not use frequently but I do trust their information because I do buy their magazines. Twitter is what brought me to people. The strength of this digital media on Twitter and People is the diversity of the tweets, topics, and media. There are different sections and topics for anyone on the website. You can also choose the trending topics to your likings, based on your area and things of that nature. Almost always there are pictures involved with any topic or tweet on twitter. Pictures stand out more and give you more of a reason to check the tweet or an article. Another strength of having things online is that you can have it whenever you want and if you have a tablet or smart phone it is available wherever you are.
I constantly check the Twitter app for multiple reasons. The main reason I check it is because I wake up to notifications from other followers because they favorited my tweet, replied to one of my tweets, or I gained a follower. Twitter also helps me keep in contact with my friends and share my thoughts to my friends who follow me in the twittersphere. I do not read newspapers, or magazines, or watch the news. Since I am always on twitter, it is where I obtain most of my current information. It also helps me keep up with my favorite celebs. My favorite thing about this website is the interactivity. You can tweet and share ideas with almost anyone, and even celebrities can follow or message you too which is really cool. As I mentioned before about the TV shows, I find it pretty sufficient getting other people’s thoughts on things. Another feature is the live streaming. Often celebrities will have live Q&A’s. You hashtag the topic they tell you to and ask your question and they tweet back replies to random users. Twitter appeals to an age range of 15-23. I noticed older people in their 20’s do not use it. The older people to use it are celebs so they can keep up with their fans. A lot of businesses use the website to promote their businesses and keep in contact with their customers. This particular story appeals to anyone who follows the Kardashian/Jenner family, or is interested in the story itself. This audience can react in one of two ways. Mostly, the audience is shocked to his sex change but others are happy for him. They would want to read about why he is change and what made him decide to do this. He has 6 kids and has been married more than once. Why would a father and former husband who has loads of money want to randomly change their gender? More of audience and curiosity come from the fact that he is a part of the Kardashian family.
If I was to add anything I would maybe add a statement of his or try and get an interview with him personally to get more personal with the story. I’ve always hated “he said/she said” things. I like to get information directly from a source rather through someone else.
